Sun Salutation A, commonly practiced in Ashtanga and Vinyasa yoga, is a shorter sequence with a focus on building heat and synchronizing breath with movement; often used in warm up. The sequence is as follows:

  1. Tadasana (Mountain Pose)
  2. Urdhva Hastasana (Upward Salute)
  3. Uttanasana (Standing Forward Bend)
  4. Ardha Uttanasana (Halfway Lift)
  5. Chaturanga Dandasana (Four-Limbed Staff Pose)
  6. Urdhva Mukha Svanasana (Upward-Facing Dog)
  7. Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward-Facing Dog)
  8. Ardha Uttanasana (Halfway Lift)
  9. Uttanasana (Standing Forward Bend)
  10. Urdhva Hastasana (Upward Salute)
  11. Tadasana (Mountain Pose)

This is typically the foundation of all vinyasa flows. Sequences build from Downward-Facing Dog and end by completing the second half of the "vinyasa flow" or Sun Salutation A from Chaturanga Dandasana through Mountain Pose.
