Summer Solstice

Litha — Summer Solstice

Summer’s sweetness is something to be celebrated.

Litha, also known as the Summer Solstice, is honored by many Pagan traditions as one of the eight Sabbats on the Wheel of the Year. It falls each year between June 20th and 21st, marking the midpoint of the solar calendar—the longest day of light in the Northern Hemisphere and the longest night of the year in the Southern Hemisphere.

Often called Midsummer, this sacred turning point reflects the dance of light and shadow, both in the world around us and within our own being. It is a moment of balance, illumination, and awakening.

At this peak of summer’s radiance, we are invited to pause and listen inwardly. To reconnect with our dreams, intentions, and the quiet seeds of the soul. Litha carries a gentle yet powerful reminder: this is a time to align with your vision and take inspired action toward what you are becoming.

Ancient sites such as Stonehenge are closely linked with the Solstice, where the rising sun aligns with sacred stone corridors—an echo of humanity’s long devotion to the returning light.

Folklore also speaks of this night as a threshold between worlds, when the veil between the human realm and the faerie realm is said to be especially thin. It is a time of enchantment, when offerings of gratitude, sweetness, and respect are believed to be met with blessings in return. Bonfires are lit, and stories tell of the fae dancing beneath Grandmother Moon, weaving subtle magic through the land.

Herbs are at their most potent now—alive with solar energy. Traditionally, this is a time to gather, honor, and work with plants such as St. John’s Wort, infusing rituals, remedies, and intentions with their peak vitality.

For those who walk with the spirit of the sea, Litha also reflects the wisdom of Yemaya—reminding us to flow, to soften, and to trust the waters of life. Even in overwhelm or uncertainty, we are held. We are supported. We are never truly sinking.

Whether you are in the height of summer or the depth of winter depending on where you stand on the Earth, the Solstice speaks a universal truth:

We are one planet. One human family. One living, breathing whole.

So today, honor the light. Dance, reflect, create, release. Let intention meet action. Let beauty meet awareness.

And may this Solstice awaken something bright and ancient within you.

Shine brightly. ✨
