We’re committed to helping you grow and expand deeply on a personal level, so you can fully express yourself and live free in every moment. Once you book we will be reaching out and asking you about your specific goals for growth and healing. Many retreat participants experience rejuvenation from past experiences, detachment from emotional energies and a deep shifting of priorities. You will journey on from this retreat feeling expanded and empowered as an individual.
True yogic living teaches us to expand our consciousness and live a higher vibrational experience filled with beauty, presence, grace, and bliss.
Seekers from around the globe come to Peru to share in a vibrant community that is supportive, curious, and soulful. The “yoga bubble” we create together during the immersion-style retreat is unique and truly life-changing.
A Despacho is a prayer bundle or offering, an expression of gratitude to heal physical and emotional ailments of any kind, to restore balance or harmony where it is off, or when there’s a specific request of the spirit world.
The ceremony where the despacho is collectively created is a beautiful, South American tradition, where elements from the Earth are chosen and the offering is built together, as a group, with intent and love. Ultimately, the Despacho offering goes back to Mother Earth, filled with prayer, along with the intentions and vibrations of those participating, a living request to bring energy shifts and healing in exchange for the continued love and care of Mother Earth. Despachos are a powerful form of gifting heavy energies, fears, even illness to the Pachamama, or Mother Earth, in exchange for her care of us. It is a love bundle made of flowers, seeds, oils, liquor, candy or any natural item that grows in her garden. It can also include small objects of personal significance, mementos or paper money. Despachos can be very powerful. The intent has to be clear and impeccable, meaning noble causes only. It is very moving and reassuring to know that we are not alone fighting our fights but can call upon the spirits of our elders, on the archetypes of the medicine wheel, on the energy of the sun, the moon, the rivers and our Mother, Pachamama herself to care for us, love us and help us heal.
It’s no secret that Peru is known for its natural beauty, as tourists flock to take in the vistas at Machu Picchu, explore the landscapes surrounding the Inca Trail, or tour the sprawling Sacred Valley. But the country is home to a lesser-known wonder that rivals the country’s best attractions. Located just 25 miles north of Cusco, the Maras Salt Flats or, Salidas de Maras, as they’re known locally are a collection of 3,000 salt ponds created by the Incas in the 1400s. Fed by a subterranean stream that flows through an intricate system of channels, the ponds are left to dry over the course of a few days. As the water evaporates, a thick layer of salt is left behind which is then scraped from the pond, bagged up, and sold in nearby markets in the surrounding community of Pichingoto. Compared to Machu Picchu, where thousands of tourists visit on a daily basis, the Maras Salt Flats are a secluded retreat where you’ll rarely have to share the experience with more than two-dozen other travelers. Cascading down the mountainside towards the Rio Vilcanota, the salt ponds offer stunning views that rival even the most celebrated attractions in Peru.
The hour-long drive from Cusco takes you through the rolling hills of the Sacred Valley and by the small town of Urubamba, where you’ll see beautiful examples of colonial architecture. A 15-minute drive from Maras, famed chef Virgilio Martinez, owner of Central, the Lima restaurant that landed him at the top of The World’s 50 Best list recently opened a new restaurant in the heart of the Inca ruins at Moray and we will be dining there the evening after visiting the salt flats. MIL offers an updated spin on traditional cuisine, and yes, they feature dishes made with Maras salt.
The breathtaking scenery of the Sacred Valley in Peru is a sight to behold in itself, but witness something even more magnificent as you peer down into the Incan ruins of Moray. Having no written language, the purpose of this stunning place is shrouded in mystery. It is composed of three groups of circular terraces that descend 490 feet from the highest terrace to the lowest. Surrounded by the towering Andes mountains, looking into the depths of these man-made craters will fill you with awe and wonder. With the Incas having no written language, the Moray ruins are an enigma. Their purpose has encouraged debate between anthropologists, archaeologists, and curious travelers for nearly a century, but four popular theories persist.
A temazcal is a type of sweat lodge which originated with pre-Hispanic Indigenous peoples in Mesoamerica, made from hot stones, incense, medicinal plants, and medicinal music. It is used as part of a curative ceremony to purify the body. It has also been traditionally used for healing the sick, improving health, and for women to give birth. The ceremony is guided by a Shaman.
Considered one of the 7 Wonders of the modern world and standing in the middle of a tropical mountain forest, Machu Picchu is one of the world’s most significant archaeological sites. This enigmatic stone citadel is tangible evidence of the Inca Empire, when it was at the peak of its power and achievement, although the exact purpose of this magnificent complex of palaces, plazas, temples and homes remains an enduring mystery. The site’s dramatic setting, which encompasses the diverse flora and fauna of the upper Amazon basin, along with its rich history, make Machu Picchu an unforgettable travel destination.
In Cusco, every corner tells a story and every story is captivating, mystical and inviting. Imagine walking through streets with names like “Ataúd” [Coffin], Siete Culebras [Seven Serpents] and “Arpías” [Harpies]. In these streets time seems to have stopped, every corner offers a piece of history, and the stones remain alive because they have survived intact. Cusco witnessed the arrival of the Spanish, and yet to this day it conserves an ancestral magic which captivates the thousands of visitors who each year form part of its living history. Cusco, acknowledged as the historic capital of Peru, renowned as the navel of the Earth. It is pure magic and time must be spent here immersing in its magic.
Ayahuasca is an ancient medicinal plant brew with its origins in the Amazon, namely Peru. The thick brown tea is made using a vine that only grows in the rainforest, and plant leaves that contain hallucinogenic properties. An Ayahuasca ceremony involves drinking the hallucinatory plant/vine tea blend under the guidance of a respected Shaman, for a long night spent in deep connection to a higher intelligence and an understanding of one's true self. A typical Ayahuasca ceremony is a full night, the journey can last up to five hours. Ayahuasca is indigenous to the Amazon and is a truly life changing and transformative experience. Everyone is always a little nervous when they get ready to do their first Ayahuasca ceremony, but after they have done one they wonder why they were ever worried! We provide a safe environment with lots of helpers, and no one is left unattended if they have needs, be it physical, emotional or mental.
San Pedro Ceremony is truly transformative and amazing. San Pedro is a very strong medicine, lasts twice as long as Ayahuasca, and opens the heart to love and peace within the self and the world. Ayahuasca is the feminine of the two medicines and San Pedro is the masculine of the medicines. Shamans say that Ayahuasca shows you what you need to change, gives you insight into your challenges and issues, and San Pedro (Huachuma) gives you the power to make the change. Often, in a healing experience, the mind is in the way of the heart’s wisdom. San Pedro goes straight to the heart and bypasses the mind’s defenses and ego resistance. We have witnessed amazing transformations for people who have a lot of mental activity that holds them back from their healing, with beautiful heart openings to love they have never imagined is possible before.
In Peru, floral baths known as banjos florales (‘flower baths’) are a staple of shamanic healing from the high Andes to the Amazon basin, where they are used to wash away unhelpful spirits so that blockages are removed and the energy of the universe can flood in to correct the imbalance. A tub is filled with water and to this is added the plants that the person most needs, like mocura and ajo sacha, some of the most powerful doctors. Agua florida or agua de colpas (water from jungle clay licks, which is rich in nutrients) may also be added. The patient must approach in a sacred manner, in prayer that his needs will be met, and with the intention that they will.
In Peru, the coca leaf has a rich and important history, with many Peruvians valuing the leaves as highly as gold. Visitors today often know of coca leaves because of their ability to relieve altitude sickness, whilst locals use them in many different ways. They are often consumed on a daily basis, chewed or used During a coca leaf reading the guest is invited to sit with the shaman. Coca leaves are thrown into the direction of a sacred mountain and the shaman lays out a handful of leaves on the blanket in front of the guest. The movement of the leaves falling gives the shaman information about the guest. Additionally, the shaman can decipher details about the individual’s future, work, life, family or financial situation depending on the leaves’ shapes and colors.
It is best to fly into Cusco Airport. A few airlines like Avianca offer direct international flights into Cusco. Otherwise it is easy to fly to Lima and change to a domestic flight to Cusco. There are many leaving daily between Lima's international airport and Cusco for relatively inexpensive if booked in advance.
From the airport to Raices Inkas we can arrange a car service or you can take a local bus if feeling more adventurous. Uber is also an exceptionally easy way to get around Peru, and is much cheaper than the taxis waiting outside the airport.
Raices de Arin is a place of serenity and simplicity, where one can connect to oneself and to nature, in a community of like-minded people, a sacred space for people from all over the world to come and connect with their inner wisdom, to explore the many paths to healing, to nurture their bodies in the ultimate natural setting.
Raices Retreat & Spa in Sacred Valley Cusco Peru offers a variety of unique accommodations scattered across lush landscaped grounds, each nestled amidst verdant gardens with stunning panoramic views.
Raices is a unique destination for rejuvenating yoga and wellness retreats in The Sacred Valley of Peru. Dedicated to healing the mind, body & spirit, Raices welcomes individuals and groups to enjoy its amazing mountain top location, two yoga halls with spectacular views.
Everything about this place is purely magical. The grounds are impeccable featuring fruit, herbs, and flowers. The food is cooked with love and extremely delicious. The units offer breathtaking views. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. It is a retreat center of a lifetime!
Please remember that Cusco is located at very high altitude (3,400m/11,150ft). It is likely you will experience altitude sickness for the first day or so. Coca tea is the local remedy for this and works like a charm! If you are sensitive to altitude, perhaps plan to arrive a couple of days before the retreat begins to acclimate yourself so you do not feel sick during the retreat.
If you would like to stay in Cusco or continue on to other places in the Sacred Valley, we can give recommendations and help make arrangement.

JOLIE WILSON - OWNER & FOUNDER, FCYS
Having studied and practiced yoga, meditation, and intuitive arts for over 21 years, Jolie believes these practices are the greatest gifts we can give ourselves and others. As a certified yoga teacher of 7 different yogic practices, owner of Full Circle Yoga School, owner of Luxe Life Retreats, transformation facilitator, a certified paddle board yoga instructor, Reiki Level II practitioner, and teacher of kids yoga and meditation classes, she is ever delving deeper into these passions. As a mother of four and woman who found herself embarking on a journey a bit different than expected, Jolie took a deeper turn toward these practices in 2009 when she needed healing from depression, trauma, anxiety, panic attacks and at the time what felt like a broken life.
Through consciousness raising, present moment awareness, treating our body as a temple, and living life as a moving meditation Jolie teaches that when we start living from our divine essence, we remember who we are and in this creation of space within ourselves we reclaim our power and infinite ability to manifest our dreams. Jolie has experienced and been witness to many "miracles" that the rational mind can not explain. She does not believe in limits, boundaries, or the finite and through that awareness she lives a magical life beyond what most people consider ordinary reality. In addition to nurturing our soul and spirit, our physical body is the temple. Keeping it strong and healthy is vital to an enlightened life. As a channel and intuit Jolie utilizes her clairvoyant abilities in a symbiotic way to offer sessions that work to integrate past traumas and emotional disturbances. Being of service to others and aiding them in healing their lives, improving their health, and living authentically is Jolie's life’s purpose. May all of your days be filled with infinite love, grace, beauty, and bliss! May you know you are powerful beyond measure. May you be free. Namaste.
