Welcome to the Final Full Moon of 2020, and of course in keeping with the craziness of this year, it falls right near the end of the year on December 29-30 (depending on your time zone). It is known as the Cold Moon because it is the closest to the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere which is also why it is also called Moon of the Long Night and this one is in the emotional watery sign of Cancer. Cancer is all about the home (the crab literally carries theirs), family and the stability and peace we can find within.
Cancer is ruled by the moon and Decembers’ is particularly important as it follows the Total Solar Eclipse, we experienced during the New Moon earlier this month. Eclipses rock our worlds. They throw events, info, people & more at us, to disrupt our so-called "normal", and cause us to question what exactly is "normal" anyway. The result? This moon starts to bring to light just what needs to change... it calls us to come together as people of a new time, with wise hearts and a united vision for the future.
Full Moons are also more powerful because they rise opposite the Sun. The Sun in the sign of Capricorn will oppose the Moon in Cancer-the masculine opposite the feminine. Now we shine a light on the feminine bringing to life new ways to care for ourselves, new ways of being and new projects. Kali calls during this lumination for us to push the ego aside and let the sunshine in…to step into the wildness and embark on a road to something better… to take that cleansing Full Moon energy and free yourselves from anything we no longer wish to take into the new year. Let the light into your heart and you will find your own truth. Find the spark of joy that is within you. Science says we are composed of the same materials as the stars above us as well as the components in the trees and the soil below us. So, are we not also divine? We are all interconnected in this great web.
On the Wheel of the Year, every Earth change is a celebration, and every celebration is an opportunity to strengthen your connection to yourself, your people, your planet, and your God/Goddess. So Mote it Be
Cancer Full Moon Bathing Ritual
(after the year we’ve had I think we all deserve some juicy self-care lovin'!)
Please note this is a bathing ritual, if you don’t have a bath you can prepare all the ingredients in a large pot/jug and then pour it over yourself in the shower, or alternatively, you can do this ritual as a hand or foot bath.
This ritual can be done anytime but for best results aim to do it the night of the full
moon or 3 days before or after.
You will need:
• Cleansing tools of choice (dried herbs, incense, palo santo sage, oils, candles, flowers, etc.)
• Ingredients for your bath (choose at least three of the following)- essential oils, rose petals, lavender buds, flowers, chamomile/herbal tea, sea salt, lemon slices, fresh or dried herbs
• clear quartz and/or amethyst crystal
Prepare your bath by brewing a botanical bath tea made up of any ingredients of your choice. Once your tea has steeped for at least 15 minutes, strain it, and pour into your tub. Place your crystals in tub.
To bring your bath experience to life, surround your tub with candles and fresh flowers. Burn sacred smoke to clear energy, purify the air and create space to tune in. Now climb into the tub and just let yourself be. Stay in your bath for as long as it feels comfortable
When ready drain the tub and visualize the water rinsing away toxins and cleansing your entire body in new light energy. To complete your ritual bath, remove, rinse, and dry your crystals placing them in a bowl of sea salt for an hour to cleanse them.
